Granite is a common and vastly occurring form of intrusive, felsic and igneous rock. Usually having medium to coarse texture, the color of granite can vary from pink to black or dark gray, depending on its chemistry and mineralogy. It is a very hard and tough rock, widely used as a construction stone. Formed from magma, granite is emplaced at depth in the thick crust, formed by the metamorphic aureole or hornfels.
