QuartziteOriginally
referred as sandstone, quartzite is a hard, metamorphic rock. By
applying thorough heating and pressure in terms of tectonic compression
within orogenic belts, sandstone is transformed into quartzite. Due to
the presence of varying quantities of iron oxide, its color vary from
pink to red otherwise pure form of quartzite ranges from white to grey.
It is highly resistant to chemical weathering and often forms ridges and
resistant hilltops. |
